JOB TITLE: Care Group promoter (8 PROMOTERS)
REPORTING TO: Food and Nutrition Manager/ Supervisor
WORK LOCATION: Based in Serengeti (Mugumu)

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To provide Health and Nutrition information, facilitates organized, participatory learning
sessions to care group volunteers under direct supervision of the supervisor.

Key Accountabilities

  • Coordinates local-level activities and maintain cooperation with other communitylevel institutions, such as the village council, churches and schools.
  • Meets bi-weekly with the local leadership committee in each community to coordinate, monitor and evaluate (if these committees exist)
  • Facilitates organized, participatory learning sessions (CG meetings) with each of his/her 10-12 Care Group Volunteers (CGVs) every 2 weeks, following the lessons plan in the educational material provided
  • Attend bi-weekly training and reporting meetings provided by the supervisor and the module training sessions to accurately replicate trainings given the CGVs, sharing correct information and demonstrating skills learned.
  • Models the health, nutrition and sanitation behaviors he/she teaches CGVs in his/her own homes
  • Visits, monitor and evaluate each CGV at least quarterly. Supervise CGVs work by accompanying them on home visits and observing them leading group meetings
  • Assists with other program activities, such as National Nutrition days, distribution of vitamin A and deworming medicine and weighing children under 5 years
  • Attends training and coordination meetings at the sub-county level, providing verbal feedback and written reports of activities completed
  • Completes monthly reports based on the CGV registers and Neighbor Women’s (NW) registers
  • Cultivate and maintain good working relations with local communities and government representatives.
  • Assist in project review and documentation of lessons learnt for wider dissemination.
  • Prepare a roster of the visits to CGVs
  • Perform other duties as would be required.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Trained CHWs an asset
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Basic math skills: addition, subtraction and able to calculate percentages
  • Awareness of community-based approaches
  • Outgoing personality with good communication skills.
  • Good team player, flexible.
  • Appreciation of and sensitivity to local culture.
  • Able and willing to be in the community 5 days per week
  • Excellent written and spoken English & Kiswahili.

Desired:

  • Diploma holder (preferable in community nutrition or community work)
  • Experience in implementation of nutrition/health programs in a rural setup
  • Experience in humanitarian assistance programs.
