Transactional Products & Services; This team is constantly working to extend our service capability and product range, consolidating our operations in established markets while expanding and extending in emerging markets. We divide our core capabilities into three product groups – Investor Services, Transactional Banking and International Trade Services.

Job Purpose
Maximize short and long term shareholder value by creating and implementing both a 3-year strategic product roadmap for Cash & Trade products in country as well as an annual operating plan that will enable the business, from a product perspective, to exceed all financial and non-financial goals.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

a. Overall Strategy and Financial Achievement

  • Jointly responsible for articulating a country product strategy and executing on its annual operating plan for Cash & Trade. Responsible for driving cash & Trade product P&L
  • Develop jointly with the TPS Head a Product & Sales strategy to meet country revenue targets, in line with the overall TPS strategy
  • Understand the dynamics of trade & cash management with a view to assess market trends, identify new business opportunities or competitive threats across the country. Devise strategies to capture the opportunities and grow revenues.
  • Liaise closely with Regional Product Head to align regional and country strategy and priorities.
  • Understand customers’ buying behaviours and needs to develop value propositions that will drive product cross sell and increase revenues
  • Capture competitor intelligence and regulatory information and use it to develop or reinforce our competitive edge
  • Work with the end to end stakeholders involved in the delivery of the client’s “whole” product experience, to deliver measured improvement in product delivery from service, productivity and risk management perspectives.


Leadership

  • Provide leadership in the commercialization and utilization efforts
  • Act as change agent to transform our profile in the marketplace
  • Be recognized by industry and peers as a business leader and an expert in continuously driving and leading product innovations. Particularly, be actively engaged in leading-edge industry developments and continuously migrate best practices within the countries in the region and Standard Bank Group.
  • Enhance brand value and thought leadership via authoring articles, speaking engagements, media and roundtable events.
  • Efficient internal and external stakeholder communication and management


Product Management & Product Development

  • Provide product solutioning support for complex deals or RFPs and sponsor them to conclusion.
  • Sponsor launches of product enhancements, new products or new platforms as required. Work with appropriate stakeholders to develop sales support materials. Work jointly with Sales to communicate product launches, organize customer events and develop a sales campaign strategy to ensure that the new products meet planned volume and revenue targets.
  • Identify and market-size new business opportunities and revenue pools and articulate the product capabilities needed to seize a share of them
  • Act as the main conduit for championing to Central Product all investment cases (BRS or Investment Proposal) for product development or enhancements and for local regulatory requirements from the ROA region.
  • Effective rollout and commercialization of group platforms at a local level.


Segment Focus


  • Work with regional product, segment heads and sales team to develop and deploy a robust client focused product set across the TPS suite of products and services.
  • Understand the needs of customers and prospects, and implement structures and solutions with country product managers to meet these needs
  • Work with operations to ensure a segment specific client service model is established, ensuring differentiated service is afforded where the revenue opportunity justifies, and that general service standards to customers is driven to a level superior to competition across the segments.
  • Maintain high level client interaction. Approximately 15% of your time should be spent on client-related activities.


Governance

  • Ensure Country compliance on Audit, Control and financial reporting standards as they relate to TPS products.
  • Established and are maintain an appropriate risk management model for identifying, considering and mitigating the risks ensuing from offering a product in a given market.


Staff Development & Management

  • Ability to recruit, retain and develop the next generation of product management and product development talent for the country.
  • Ability to motivate individuals and build team-oriented, aspirational goals that are aligned to the objectives of the TPS business.

To have the personal skills and attributes to manage both direct and virtual teams at a senior level within the organization.

Preferred Qualification and Experience

Past experience owning a P&L
Experience managing through influence in a large organization
5-10 years of Transaction banking experience
Have previously worked in either direct cash/trade sales/product role
Relevant client and/or geographical experience in the Africa region.
Past involvement with industry bodies such as BAFT/SWIFT etc.
Minimum 10 years of working experience
Ideally gained experience working across multiple geographic locations
Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise

Familiarity with Corporate Bank and Global Markets product set
Strong Transaction Banking knowledge.
Basic understanding of balance sheet and financials
